Hi! This is Virginia Scocchera, I am a technical-scientific translator in English language graduated at Sofía Broquen de Spangenberg—also known as Lengüitas—located in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Since a child, I have been curious for cultural diversity among societies, plurality of voices and ideas that coexist in the world. Getting to know other languages let people get inside different backgrounds and cultures. That is why I decided to continue studying the language I had been learning for years—English. Translation was my answer to get through to such questions and frontiers, as well as to be able to mediate as a bridge between languages.

Nowadays, English language has a crucial role around the world. Due to globalization and socioeconomic demands, it has become a sort of lingua franca—It functions as the official language to international entities and organisms, and many diplomatic documents are written in English and, then, translated to other languages.

The role of translation is extremely significant so as to connect the diversity of cultures and thoughts existing in every region. The work done by translators takes responsability and dedication, and goes beyond a linguistic extent: studying and especializing in areas we are intersted in is a must. I myself continue my studies in fileds related to social science and humanities, as well as in audiovisual translation.

I keep on learning other languages: Italian and Mapuzungun (known as the language of Mapuche peoples). It is not my real aim to be a translator of other languages, but I do believe that knowing other languages makes us expand our understading and comprehension on multiculturality among humans.

I am also a bellydancer. I graduated as teacher in bellydancing especialized in history. I continue my studies as a dancer: ethnoidentity dances (or folk dances) are also part of my repertoire. Bonding my two passions—translation and dancing—has been one of the greatest satisfactions in my life.
